Commissioned by Ryan Parks (conductor) and Our Lady of Sion Boxhill College to compose a 5-minute work for their wind band/symphony.

Commissioned work: “rising”

PROGRAMME NOTE
With climate change and disaster ever more present in our world, we are watching

everything rise – whether it be the Earth’s rising temperatures, the rising sea levels as a result, or plainly put, the rising stakes of our world. Though, with all of this at the forefront of our mind, this work aims to both raise awareness, hope and a reminder.

When everything has risen to a boil and a turning point is reached, we hope that humanity makes the right choice, the right direction in change. It is but a hope that after the recovery of our planet from devastating climate change, that life once past or even that of new life can emerge and rise from (hopefully just) metaphorical ashes. Yet with all those hopes, we are still the ones who make that change and make that choice – and we need to make it now more than ever.

timing: ~5 minutes

A huge thank you to the Our Lady of Sion Boxhill College Wind Band and Ryan Parks for commissioning this work – especially with climate change as the desired concept. This work is dedicated to you and your remarkable social justice consciousness at your school.
