So thrilled to have finally submitted this piece and cannot wait for Australian Youth Orchestra to bring it and my fellow composers’ works to life when possible!
It is such an honour to have completed this piece and worked alongside 4 other amazing composers (Ben Robinson, Lewis Ingham, Izzy Gerometta and Aaron Pelle) under the mentorship of the fantastic Adelaide-based composer Anne Cawrse. AYO has been such a great experience (and really challenging in the best way) and I really extend my thanks to the team there who made all this possible in an online setting, as we continue to navigate the trying climate of covid-19 that we all exist in right now.

The fantastic cover art design is by my sister Lucinda McIntyre and thank you to the many more people who have held me up while I undertook this incredible program alongside an intense array of commitments between postgrad law studies/exams, ICEBERG new music institute and two commissions (I’ve been terrible at posting this year!) all within the same 4 months – that being said I am so so grateful for these opportunities and cannot wait for the next wherever it may lead!
PROGRAMME NOTE
Thunder is often attributed as an intense, cautionary experience. Yet, there is something uniquely beautiful in a thunderous rumble when it is distant, surrounded by an expanding environment. It is as if the echoes emulate a calming reassuring hum – for how often do we truly give attention to thunder when it speaks softly?
