Melbourne Saxophone 2021 REMIX! Festival Commission
Commissioned in April by Joseph Lallo and Melbourne Saxophone to compose a 4-minute work for saxophone ensemble, to be played by at least 15 performers and prepared for 50-100. The work is to be featured in their concert “Sound of Water” (currently postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and is dedicated to my close friend, conductor and saxophonist Nicole Marshall.
I am very grateful for this commission and greatly enjoyed writing this minimalist work, adding to the saxophone ensemble repertoire.
From Programme Note: “To proliferate means to rapidly increase in number, multiply, flourish and grow. Just like the rhythmic cells of this work, us, nature and any other living thing, continue to exhibit the proliferation of cells. Yet, at the crux of this work lies not just the physical but the metaphorical notion of growth.”
