the distance between (2022) written for Corvus Ensemble

(mixed quartet of flute/alto flute, alto saxophone, cello & vibraphone)

Like the mist encompassing the Alaskan mountains, Denali felt so deeply constant. Yet also like light refracting off arctic bodies, Denali felt so unique from every angle. The distance between the beginning and end of a hike meshes into a sublime yet hazy memory, as it is almost as if we can't truly comprehend what we witnessed.

~ Dedicated to Katy Abbott, who continually inspires me in learning and in life ~
