Proliferate (2021) commissioned by Joseph Lallo and Melbourne Saxophone

(saxophone ensemble)

To proliferate means to rapidly increase in number, multiply, flourish and grow. Just like the rhythmic cells of this work, us, nature and any other living thing, continue to exhibit the proliferation of cells. Yet, at the crux of this work lies not just the physical but also the metaphorical notion of growth.

This work is dedicated to an example of a true embodiment inspiration. Someone who continually develops as a genuinely beautiful person; someone who conveniently play saxophone(s); and someone who conducts herself in a manner we should all aspire to mirror – Nicole Marshall.

This work was generously commissioned by Joseph Lallo and Melbourne Saxophone in 2021. It received its world premiere performance on Saturday the 22nd of October by the Melbourne Conservatorium Saxophone Ensemble and conducted by Joseph Lallo in “Sound of Water”, at Hanson Dyer Hall, Ian Potter Southbank Centre (Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne).
